Post Diagnostic Support

When a child receives a diagnosis of autism or ADHD, it can bring relief, clarity—and a whole new set of questions. At White Oaks, we offer gentle, affirming sessions to help parents, children and young people explore what their diagnosis means in a way that feels empowering and true to who they are.

Autism Support After Diagnosis

Why These Sessions Matter

Research shows that when children understand their neurodivergent identity, they’re more likely to feel confident, self-aware, and proud of who they are. These sessions support:

  • A positive sense of identity

  • Greater self-esteem and emotional wellbeing

  • Confidence in expressing needs and advocating for support

Diagnosis is just the beginning. Understanding it is where the journey of self-discovery begins.

What’s Involved

These sessions guide children and parents through:

  • Strengths-based conversations about autism and/or ADHD

  • Age-appropriate explanations tailored to their experiences

  • Creative tools to help them reflect, ask questions, and feel seen

  • Support to help parents better understand a child’s profile and explore strategies to support areas of need

ADHD Support After Diagnosis

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis can bring clarity—and raise new questions. At White Oaks, we’re here to walk alongside families with compassionate, evidence-based support tailored to your child’s needs.

What Happens Next?

Following NICE and best-practice guidelines, we offer a range of post-diagnostic options to help families feel informed, empowered, and supported:

Parent Support & Education

We offer ADHD-focused sessions for parents and young people. These sessions include:

  • Clear, accessible information about ADHD and understanding your child’s unique profile of strengths and struggles

  • Practical parenting strategies and psychosocial strategies to support emotional regulation, attention, and behaviour

  • Liaison with your child’s school or college (with your consent), to help build a consistent support plan across settings

Medication Guidance

Medication may be considered if your child’s ADHD symptoms continue to cause significant challenges, even after environmental adjustments. We’ll guide you through:

  • Understanding the pros and cons of exploring medication as a next step

  • Discussing referral routes for medication  (e.g. with a GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist) if medication feels like the right next step

Therapy for ADHD related difficulties

For children and teens who benefit from medication but still experience difficulties, we may recommend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

This can help with:

  • Building social confidence and peer relationships

  • Strengthening problem-solving and emotional regulation

  • Developing active listening and self-control

We’ll work with you to find the right therapeutic fit and can add your child to our waiting list for CBT or other tailored support.
